Google Inc. has announced plans to open an enhanced online video marketplace including content from CBS, which will include Paramount Television shows Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager.
"Google Video will let you watch lots of high quality video on the web for the first time," explained company co-founder Larry Page at Google. In addition, Google will allow amateur and professional filmmakers to broadcast over the web: "For video producers and anyone with a video camera, Google Video will give you a platform to publish to the entire Google audience in a fast, free and seamless way."
In addition to the two Star Trek series, shows from CBS's current lineup including CSI, NCIS and Survivor, plus Sony music videos, classic cartoons and NBA games, will be available commercial-free. "This is yet another exciting platform in which CBS can leverage its market-leading content to a whole new audience," said CBS president Leslie Moonves.
"With the recent corporate split between Viacom and CBS, the latter company has taken control of all of Paramount's television properties, including the Star Trek franchise," explained StarTrek.com. Other historical Paramount series like I Love Lucy will be available for purchase at Google as well.
Since Viacom and CBS split, it had been unclear which division would ultimately control the Star Trek franchise. Paramount Pictures is now a part of Viacom, but Paramount Television and the series it produced for UPN are now a part of CBS.

Roddenberry Jr. Talks 'Trek Nation', TV Shows, Majel

In a chat with fans, Eugene Roddenberry, Jr. talked about his Trek Nation documentary, his mother's health and his frustration with how his father's series have been handled by producers in recent years.
At Roddenberry.com, the son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry said that Trek Nation (no relation to the Trek Nation web site) is halfway through the editing process and needs at least another two months before it can be entered into film festivals. "We actually had a finished rough cut but it was not what we wanted," he admitted. "So we've had to go back and recut the whole thing...I'm going for 'I am very happy with this film.'"
The film was not finished in time for Sundance this year, he noted. After the film is shown, he added, "distributors (Paramount, 20th Century, Lions Gate...etc) contact us with an offer...ideally." He hoped to see the film released by the end of 2006 in time for Star Trek's 40th anniversary. Anthony Montgomery (Mayweather) and Roddenberry have "been working on a hiphop" for the movie which Roddenberry called "really quite amazing," saying that Montgomery, who released a CD last year, is "talented beyond anything I imagined."
Roddenberry said that he was out of the loop about Paramount's plans for Star Trek, explaining that he did not know whether there would be another movie or a Starfleet Academy show. "I wish I could be the 'Authority' on this stuff but I get the impression that Paramount do[es] not want the Roddenberry [name] to take part in promoting ST," he said. "HOWEVER! Star Trek is not dead or gone. Paramount owns an amazing and profitable property. I'm fairly certain they are just regrouping. IT WILL be back. No one is that stupid."
When a fan inquired about his mother, Roddenberry said, "Majel is good. In her own words 'getting older' but good. She cannot move around as well as she used to. I think she's pretty much retired when it come to conventions...she's done them for almost 40 years, she deserves a rest."
Asked whether there were any plans to continue Andromeda, Roddenberry said that he was out of the loop there as well: "I wiped my hands of Andromeda back at the beginning of production....I've had nothing to do with it." He guessed that there would not be another season of the television series, but added, "However, this is only a rumor...someone somewhere (not me) may be trying to shop it around as a feature. Just like Firefly. Keep in mind that I get these rumors from other fans not from legitimate sources. I know nothing."
As for Earth: Final Conflict, another Gene Roddenberry series, Roddenberry noted, "EFC was wonderful because of the cast and crew and terrible because of the typical Hollywood BS." For him the biggest problems were personal: "'Someone else' was producing a TV series based on my father's concepts. They had little respect for the fans and weight of the Roddenberry name. First season was an excellent first season. The rest was mediocre Sci Fi. In my opinion...however, lets see how good I do when I produce my first TV series. Proof is in the puddin' baby!"

Star Trek.com Features Sarek
Star Trek.com Documetaries has published a feature on Sarek, of Vulcan (potrayed by the late Mark Leonard) son of Skon, and father to Spock.
Over an illustious career, Sarek became widely known as a Federation Ambassador, and a diplomat for not only the Vuclan government, and the Federation as a whole, including the 93 year effort to bring about the Federation-Legaran Treaty. However, his personal life was stormy. Sarek raerely saw his first son, Sybok who was born in 2224 to a Vulcan princess Sarek's first wife who died shortly after the delivery.

Tom Hanks To Appear In Trek?
SciFi heaven has managed to drop a HUGE bombshell on Trek fans around the world. According to an unnamed source on their website, Tom Hanks (pictured) has been rumored to have been penned as a possible star for Erik Jendresen’s script Star Trek: The Begining should it be chosen by Paramout for production.
While the rumor can't be confirmed, and the authenticity is definately in qestion, IF the information does prove to be true, this might be just the situation to re-energize the much loved 40 year old franchise.
Mr. Hanks, who produced, and directed the sreries From Earth To The Moon has shown a love for space exploration, and long cemented himself as a household name with 4 Oscars and a list of movie credits thast includes some of the biggest stars in Hollywood. His next movie, The DaVinci Code is a highly anticipated release that is attracting attention around the world.
If the information holds out to be true, then this could just send a message to 'The Powers That Be' in Hollywood that Trek is an impratant franchise the world over, and it's time to take notice. Mr. Hanks can littterally punch his own ticket for any film venue he wishes to perform in. Hopefully, we can see his craft at work within the realm of a franchise that could use a boost after the events of 2005.
